It's the end of September. Some friends and I have decided to do the 21-Day Sugar Detox that will start this November 2014 to make sure we are on the right track before heading into the holidays this year. We have a month to prepare. Are you preparing for a detox? What things will you be doing in the next few weeks to prepare? Here are some ideas I jotted down the other day:
Read The 21-Day Sugar Detox book by Diane Sanfilippo. Reread it if you have already read it once. This will help you understand the principles behind why and how the plan works and give you time to decide which level is right for you.
Make some of the recipes for the 21DSD from the book or ones you find here so you feel less deprived when you start the detox. It won't be like having all new meals because some of them will be familiar to you.
Go on Pinterest and search for recipes for 21DSD to get ideas. Join Diane's official group on Facebook.
Head over to Diane's website, www.balancedbites.com, to browse the forums and sign up for the encouraging emails she sends out throughout the detox.
Make ahead some things so you can freeze them, ex. emergency protein. I like to make Nom Nom Paleo's Slow Cooker Kalua Pig and freeze some of it for days when I have no energy to cook dinner, especially that first week. Make a large roast and freeze it in smaller portions so you have something quick to thaw and use for dinner. It's great in lettuce wraps for tacos, used in soup, etc. I personally like to eat it straight from the fridge.
Bone broth. Make some and freeze it. Check out my recipe here or use the one in the book. I make large batches and freeze it to have on hand. I've been trying to drink a small cup every day for a few weeks now, and I do notice a difference.
Read through the recipes and begin stocking your pantry with items you might need, coconut butter or coconut aminos, so you are prepared. Buy one or two extra things each week so you aren't making a special trip to the store for things the weekend before the detox starts. Put in an order on Amazon for things you don't find locally.
It is important to go into that first week with a little preparation under your belt. Otherwise, the temptation to give up can be a bit too hard to resist. Having things on hand to make a few of the recipes will help. Making ahead some broth and emergency protein along with a stocked pantry with recipe ingredients will go a long way toward getting you prepared for and through that first week.
